Inside the Play: How Michigan forced overtime versus Oregon

Juwan Howard’s offensive playbook is filled with creative plays to generate open shots.

Howard has brought a number of more popular sets from the NBA to Michigan. While “Horns” sets are certainly common at both the collegiate and NBA levels, Howard has implemented a modern twist to the set to Michigan’s playbook.

I first noticed this set when Michigan returned from the Battle 4 Atlantis, and Michigan has used it with great success since. Most recently, the Wolverines used it late in the game against Oregon, including the final possession that tied the game in regulation.

I am going to walk through the play’s set-up, how it works, and why it is difficult to defend.
