2020-21 Season

NCAA 2021: Michigan vs. Texas Southern Preview

Michigan finally has an opponent for its first-round game after Texas Southern knocked off Mount St. Mary’s, 60-52, in the First Four on Thursday evening. The Tigers are the lowest-ranked team remaining in the field, 220nd per KenPom, and will face off with the Wolverines at Mackey Arena on Saturday afternoon (3:00 p.m., CBS).

Texas Southern has won 15 of its last 16 games, including the last ten in a row, and put together a second-half comeback against the Mountaineers despite their opposition dictating pace, tempo, and style-of-play.

Their reward for the comeback victory is a date with a Michigan team that hasn’t played a team ranked outside of the top-100 since December 6th. The talent gap is large, but the Tigers have a unique style and an intriguing collection of down-transfers who could make things interesting. Here’s everything you need to know about the opening-round matchup.
