2020-21 Season

Transfer Portal Hot Board: Evaluating potential transfer options

Michigan’s 2020-21 season wouldn’t have been what it was without the success of incoming transfers Mike Smith and Chaundee Brown. The duo fit into the team perfectly and addressed crucial roster needs. They found their roles in Juwan Howard’s squad and played arguably their best collegiate seasons.

Brown and Smith have both announced that they won’t be back in Ann Arbor for their extra year of eligibility, preferring to explore their professional opportunities. Michigan still sits on a full allotment on 13 scholarships but is awaiting an NBA Draft decision from Franz Wagner, who is projected as a lottery pick. Eli Brooks and Austin Davis also have to announce decisions regarding whether they’ll use their “free year” of eligibility, but neither player would count against the scholarship count.

Once the dust settles, there is a chance that Howard could look to the portal once again to fill a roster hole. Here’s a look at what Michigan’s roster might need, and which players in the portal could be roster fits in Ann Arbor.
