Juwan Howard, Eli Brooks and Hunter Dickinson were in Indianapolis on Thursday for Big Ten Media Day. It was the first public appearance by the 2021-22 Wolverines this season, on the same court where the 2019-20 season was abruptly canceled, and opening night is just over a month away.
Howard, Brooks and Dickinson held court for 30-minute breakout sessions on Thursday afternoon and provided just a bit of early insight about this year’s team. Here are five things we learned from both press conferences.
1. Keep an eye out for Kobe Bufkin and Moussa Diabate
It’s hard to glean much insight about the product on the floor from Big Ten Media Day. It is a day for praising the roster from top to bottom, dressing up, complimenting teammates, and taking fun pictures. Most specific questions about the team are met with broad answers about character, personality, and coachability.
Sometimes, even by accident, a bit of insight seeps through the cracks. When the Big Ten Network asked Eli Brooks which freshmen stood out in early practices, he singled out Kobe Bufkin and Moussa Diabate.
Later on during breakout sessions, Brooks praised Bufkin’s game once again.
