2021-22 Season

Game 7: Michigan at North Carolina Preview

There’s no such thing as a must-win college basketball game in November or December, but Michigan and North Carolina will be feeling the pressure tonight. The Wolverines and Tar Heels dropped two games apiece in November and would love a marquee win to get things back on track in the early season. That’s a tall ask for Michigan which will be playing its first real road game since they played at Maryland in March 2020 before the coronavirus shut down the 2019-20 season.

Tonight’s matchup (9:15 p.m., ESPN) is the fourth meeting in the last five seasons, after the two schools didn’t meet for over 20 years since the 1993 National Championship game, and the third new coaching matchup during that timespan. Roy Williams and John Beilein faced off in 2018 and 2019 before Juwan Howard’s first team toppled the Tar Heels at the Battle 4 Atlantis in 2019-20. Now, Howard will face off against first-year head coach Hubert Davis at the Dean Dome.
