2021-22 Season

Game 13: Michigan at Rutgers Preview

Michigan’s 2021-22 season has been stuck in a pattern of false starts. The Wolverines appeared to be gaining their footing after wins over San Diego State and Nebraska, only to let the air out of the balloon in a bad home loss against Minnesota. A blowout win over Southern Utah, a top-150 KenPom team, was another step in the right direction, and Michigan led by 12 in the second half at UCF — only to let everything unravel again.

Now, the Wolverines are 7-5, and Big Ten season is here. They don’t have many bad losses, but they don’t have any good (let alone great) wins. A road trip to Piscataway isn’t anyone’s idea of a get-right spot, but with Michigan State, Purdue and Illinois looming, there aren’t many opportunities left for Juwan Howard and his team to tinker and adjust. They need to start winning games if they want to make the NCAA Tournament and that process begins tonight at Rutgers (7:00 p.m., BTN).
