Recruiting Roundup: Trending ’23 targets after first evaluation period

College coaches hit the road over the weekend for the first evaluation period of the offseason, and the first April evaluation period since before COVID-19 struck. There was a Nike EYBL event in Orlando that drew most of the top talent in the country while Adidas and Under Armour hosted events in Indianapolis.

It’s a tricky time for many schools to recruit given the uncertainty on their present rosters, which are impacted more by the transfer portal than at any time in the past, but it is also a crucial week for schools to start to seriously evaluate class of 2023 prospects and begin to prioritize their boards. The April and May recruiting season is a time when schools generally attempt to prioritize several key prospects, bring them in for an official visit and push for a commitment before the full-fledged July evaluation period.

Juwan Howard and his staff were on the road throughout the weekend, checking in on new offers and priorities as attention shifted to the class of 2023 for the first time. Here are some scouting notes, video highlights, and takeaways from the weekend that was.
