Joey Baker was supposed to be a star.
As a four-star recruit out of high school, Baker reclassified to join Duke’s 2018 recruiting class alongside elite talents in Zion Williamson, Cam Reddish and RJ Barrett. But unlike those three, he never realized his full potential. Playing a role as a bench shooter, he only started four games in as many seasons.
But Baker can still become that star player he seemed destined to be. According to Michigan’s coaches, they just need to put him in a time machine.
“We joke all the time, we’re gonna put him back in his time capsule so he can remember who he is,” assistant coach Saddi Washington told reporters at Michigan Media Day on Friday, referencing Back to the Future. “We gotta get his flux capacitor up to 88 miles an hour so that he can generate 1.2 gigawatts of energy.”
