Four-star big man Papa Kante has been the top big man on Michigan’s recruiting board for almost the entire class of 2023 cycle. The Wolverines hosted Kante for an official visit in June and have been pushing for a commitment ever since. While his original timetable has slipped a bit, Kante is finally ready to announce his college choice on Thursday.
Kante’s final five school options include Maryland, Memphis, Michigan, Rutgers and Pittsburgh. He took recent visits to several of his finalists over the last few weeks, including a trip to Ann Arbor last weekend.
“Coach Howard has been recruiting me himself. He came up here, didn’t know, me but offered me and has been on me since,” Kante recently told 247. “I visited his school and he’s a good guy who cares about his players. They see me as a big impact freshman by the way I play, move my feet on defense, the energy I bring, and see my offensive skills coming up. Coach Howard was a four-five so he said he can help me get to the next level. He talked to my family when I was back home. They don’t speak much English but he told them how they care about me and want me.”
Kante was on campus in Ann Arbor over the weekend for his second visit this calendar year.
