2022-23 Season

Game 3: Michigan vs. Pittsburgh Preview

Michigan faces its first high-major opponent of the season tonight in Brooklyn (6:00 p.m., ESPNU) as the Pittsburgh Panthers await the Wolverines at Barclays Center.

Pitt is ranked outside the top 100 and is projected to finish in the bottom third of the ACC, and Michigan is a 9.5-point favorite, but tonight will be an important test for a young Michigan team trying to figure things out on the fly.

Jeff Capel hasn’t won more than six league games in his previous four years at Pitt, and the top prospect in his incoming recruiting class was arrested this offseason for domestic abuse. With a 25-point home rivalry loss to West Virginia already on the KenPom page this season, it is obvious that Capel’s seat is plenty warm.

On the other hand, the Panthers added some quality transfers this offseason, have a potential All-ACC big man in John Hugley, and can be dangerous on the right night.
