The good news on Tuesday night was that Michigan played significantly better than it had for the last two weeks. The bad news is that it wasted the effort. The Wolverines let an 11-point halftime lead unravel, then gave the game away down the stretch even after regaining a narrow lead.
Michigan proved that it could play with Virginia but that it still doesn’t have the late-game mettle to out-execute one of the most veteran teams of college basketball.
Virginia had the better defense, better guards, and made the smarter plays. That’s why the Hoos are 6-0 and ranked in the top five, and the Wolverines are 5-2 and ranked in the top 50.
