Argentinian big man Lee Aaliya commits to Michigan

Argentinian big man Lee Aaliya announced his commitment to Michigan today.

Aaliya chose the Wolverines over interest from over 50 schools, including over a dozen high majors, after the NCAA cleared him to play collegiate basketball in early August.

Aaliya stormed onto the international radar this summer when he averaged 17.1 points and nine rebounds per game for Argentina at the FIBA U19 World Cup. He’s a 6-foot-9 big man who will bring valuable frontcourt depth to the Michigan roster.

Here’s a look at Aaliya in action at the U19 World Cup:

Aaliya is eligible to join Michigan this season. He’s the fourth offseason addition of the summer, joining graduate transfers Olivier Nkamhoua, Tray Jackson and Nimari Burnett on U-M’s roster. The Wolverines now have one scholarship outstanding for the 2023-24 season.
