The loss wasn’t all too surprising, and the way the Michigan men’s basketball team wasn’t either. The Wolverines had played teams close for the first half plenty before only to see the game implode in the final frame. This was no different. But all of Michiagn’s issues felt a little more magnified at Breslin Center, a raucous crowd erupting at every defensive lapse and reaching a fever pitch as Michigan State poured it on in the second half.
By game’s end, it was a party in East Lansing. The Izzone student section held up pre-printed signs celebrating Tom Izzo’s 700th win — Michigan State took a safe bet it would win the game in printing all those posters out — and the Spartans denied Michigan its first win at MSU since the Juwan Howard era began.
