EAST LANSING — Monday night, Tom Izzo went to bed with butterflies. He couldn’t sleep. He was thinking about Tuesday’s rivalry game with Michigan.
It wasn’t because Tuesday was his 69th birthday. Nor was it because a win would mark the 700th in his 29-year coaching career, all with Michigan State. No, it was because Michigan was coming to town for a rivalry game.
Rivalry games mean more.
“That’ll never change,” Izzo said. “Never change, no matter if I lose 10 in a row or win 10 in a row, it’ll never change.”
