May spent the last six seasons at Florida Atlantic and took the program to unprecedented heights. The Owls made the Final Four in 2022-23 and went a combined 60-13 over the last two years.
May is 47 years old and Michigan will be his second head coaching role. He began his career as a student manager at Indiana under Bob Knight. He’s also had assistant coaching stops at Eastern Michigan, Murray State, UAB, Louisiana Tech and Florida.

In-Depth On Dusty May:
May has been heavily linked to openings over the last two years but opted to return to Florida Atlantic last offseason while retaining the majority of his Final Four roster. The Owls’ 2023-24 season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Northwestern.
Louisville and Vanderbilt were both reportedly in the market for his services this month.
The Wolverines fired Juwan Howard on March 15th after an 8-24 season, and have moved swiftly to fill the coaching vacancy. They have also lost Dug McDaniel, Tarris Reed Jr., Youssef Khayat, and George Washington III to the transfer portal, leaving the new head coach with a significant rebuilding job.
