Michigan makes the cut to three for Trey McKenney

Five-star guard Trey McKenney announced his list of finalists today: Michigan, Georgetown and USC.

McKenney has visited Michigan twice over the last month — unofficially for the football game against Texas and officially for the game against USC — and has also made stops at Georgetown (unofficial) and USC (official). Michigan and Georgetown were both expected to visit him this week.

McKenney was one of the first prospects that Dusty May prioritized after he was hired at Michigan and is one of the best scorers and shot makers in the 2025 class.

McKenney had this to say about Michigan’s recruitment:

“Dusty has been making me a priority ever since he got the job. His players are buying into what he’s bringing into the program. It’s also the hometown school so it’s definitely a good option for me. They’re trying to make me a focal point in their program and be one of the guys to push it forward.”

He also told Stockrisers that he’s done with visits and plans to announce his decision around December.

Really nailed it here :skull_and_crossbones: :

With McKenney, there was a ton of weird Georgetown smoke for a while, which left a weird taste in some fans’ mouths & that took this recruitment off the radar for them. It doesn’t seem like the GT smoke is as strong, and there also doesn’t seem to be a lot of improved in-roads from Michigan here either - despite the new coaching staff. MSU still has the challenge of winning over some of his family members, but all parties have worked hard to build relationships over the last year-plus. I’m not saying MSU leads, but this recruitment deserves more interest/investment than I would’ve advised a couple months ago.
