Michigan and Xavier did their jobs on Monday night, so we’ll get the Fort Myers Tip-Off final everyone wanted. The Wolverines and Musketeers will play on Wednesday night (8:30 p.m., FS1) for a marquee win and an early-season barometer for two programs whose rosters were stripped to the studs in the offseason.
Michigan’s roster upheaval has been well-documented, but Xavier also brought in a six-man transfer class to get back on track after a disappointing (and injury-riddled) season.
Sean Miller’s new roster is one of the most experienced in the sport. The roster averages 3.4 years of Division I experience (third nationally), and the nine-man rotation includes two sixth-year seniors and three fifth-year seniors. The one transfer who isn’t a graduate is Indiana State’s Ryan Conwell, and the junior might be a pro instead.
Miller brought in a win-now group to build around a few select returnees and should have enough firepower to compete near the top of the Big East.
