With a trip to No. 11 Wisconsin looming, Michigan coach Dusty May knows he has a tough task at hand. In his first taste of Big Ten action as head coach of the Wolverines, May is looking to lead his team into the daunting Kohl’s Center and hand the Badgers their first loss of the season.

Wisconsin poses a threat not yet seen by Michigan, both in going into a true road environment and the level of play from the Badgers themselves. In the recently released NET rankings, Wisconsin ranks nearly 100 spots higher than any other team the Wolverines have faced thus far.

“They play with great tempo, they share the basketball, they live in their strengths,” May said Monday “Hats off to (Badgers coach Greg Gard). I don’t think anyone expected them to be where they are right now, but they’ve done a nice job, and they’re obviously playing extremely well together.”

Between the end of the first chunk of non-conference play and tough contest on the horizon, now is as good a time as any to assess the progress Michigan has made thus far. When asked to identify one facet of the Wolverines that May was pleased with to this point, he immediately turned to his defense.

“The way we play defense, there’s a lot of decisions that maybe need to be made on the fly,” May said. “We’re not real black and white. It’s not ‘you’ve got to do this, and you got to do that.’ It’s,  ‘Who am I? Who is he? Who’s the guy next to me?’ So there’s a lot of just really quick decisions that need to be made. It seems like our guys are making those correct decisions a lot more frequently than they were three or four weeks ago.”
