‘A testament to all that’s right in college basketball’: Nimari Burnett’s perfect shooting night propels Michigan over Washington

Over Michigan’s last four games, graduate guard Nimari Burnett has been heating up. Shooting the three-ball at an impressive 75% clip with 15 made triples over the past four contests, Burnett’s production from downtown has been the best in the Big Ten and among the highest in the country. And during Sunday’s 91-75 win over Washington, Burnett’s efficiency was on full display as he propelled the Wolverines to a league-tying 5-0 conference record.

Burnett was perfect from the floor, scoring 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting, including 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. His scoring output marked the sixth time in the past seven games he’s reached double figures, and his ability to consistently deliver in crucial moments ensured Michigan maintained control throughout the contest.

“(A Wolverine fan needs) to go to the Wikipedia page that says efficient, and post (Burnett’s) picture,” Michigan coach Dusty May said postgame. “There can’t be another basketball player in the country that’s playing as efficient basketball as Nimari Burnett. He’s given himself to the team. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do. He’s as consistent with his work as anyone in our program. He’s almost robotic in his approach.”

May isn’t being hyperbolic, Burnett is the most efficient shooter in college basketball right now, according to KenPom, leading the sport with a 74.8 true shooting percentage.
