Michigan heads on the road for a Saturday night tilt at Maryland (8:00 p.m., FOX) this weekend that will provide a mix of NCAA Tournament deja vu and Big Ten-ACC Challenge nostalgia.
Nine months ago, Buzz Williams was at Texas A&M, facing off against Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Denver. Now, he’s the Maryland head coach, starting from scratch and trying to get off the mat in College Park.
The Terrapins are 6-4 (0-1 Big Ten) this season and lost three of their last four games — leaving the Players Era Championship with only a win over UNLV — and have only beaten one top-100 team: a win at No. 93 Marquette.
Maryland has slid from 34th in the preseason to 95th on KenPom and sits at 170th on Bart Torvik, without preseason priors. Injuries have played a factor in the rough start, but the Big Ten isn’t the league to come back from a poor start in.
