Q1 Morez Johnson's post patience

Morez Johnson, I mean, the Michigan game and then today back-to-back. I don't think I've seen a guy more patient in the blocks, taking his time to finish. Is that something that you've taught him or how does that work out? I mean, he's really tested, you know, the patience down there below.

No, the staff, our staff spends a lot of time individually with our players. They watch individual film, they get individual work, they get small group work. And to be honest, Morez Johnson's season I'd probably grade it at an A or A-. And the only thing that he hadn't been doing well was converting at one-on-one in the post.

He was still probably converting 50%, but he wasn't converting up to his standards. And he's continued to work. And on the nights when he has an advantage down low, we love the fact that he can go down there and punish guys. He has bigger guys where he has a foot speed advantage, he can get out on the perimeter and get into some dribble handoffs and pick-and-roll.

And his decision-making has been really sound, especially out of the short roll as a whole. And so we're just lucky he's on our team because he obviously— his box score is impressive, 29 and 6 and 26 minutes and draws 8 fouls. That's obviously impressive, but that doesn't even put a dent in his production overall and his value to our team.

Q7 Team accepting coaching messages

Can you speak to this team accepting your messaging so quickly and completely? Like Morez Johnson was up here talking about about specific defensive possessions where you feel, you know, you guys weren't locked in or whatever after a 30-point win? Seems unusual.

Yeah, to be honest, we got it. I don't want to be critical, but we weren't as sharp as we need to be. And if we're going to be at our best, our standards have to continue to be the standards that we've created. And our preparation the last few days wasn't as buttoned up as it has been the last month.

It's still pretty darn good, but there's just something that we didn't have the same edge tonight. I'm sure that's what Morez Johnson was referring to. And that's the beautiful thing about it. It's not as if the players and the staff aren't on the same page.

Like, there's a collaborative effort to all of us being at our absolute best. And so Morez has a big voice in our locker room, and obviously he has— he brings the force on the court. So if he said it, I'm going with Morez on that.

Q9 Closeness: success or construction

You keep describing it as a heated— your team, though, is so connected and so close. And I'm curious if you think that how close this team is and how connected it is, is a product of the success you're having. Does success breed how connected you are, or is it how you guys kind of constructed the team, the chemistry you have.

I'm curious. No, not, not at all. To be honest, I think the— our guys are really close and they're good friends, and they're— without a doubt, we'll have a wedding and the whole group will be there. It won't be this clique or that clique.

There's no question about it. And that makes this so much more rewarding long term. But I, I think that has nothing— I think it's much less to to do with our success as our collaboration, our mutual respect, our shared sacrifice, the amount of work we put in every single day. And guys, they, they look to the left, they look to the right, and so they value what the other guy brings to the table.

And they know that this is why we're good, because of all of us. So it's awesome that they're close friends, but no, I think it's all the— I think it's all those things are what makes us us and why we're having success. It's the connectivity, but it's not the going to the movies and playing video games. It's connectivity.

It's a group trying to accomplish something special through the work and through the process of chasing greatness.
