The Dallas Mavericks are hiring Dusty May as their new head coach, as first reported by Shams Charania.
May spent two years in Ann Arbor and won a National Championship, Big Ten Championship and Big Ten Tournament Championship. He’s the first head coach to leave college for the NBA since John Beilein left Michigan to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.
May’s departure means every player on Michigan’s roster has a 15-day window to enter the transfer portal, beginning five days after a new head coach is hired. The Wolverines have to find a new head coach when the coaching carousel has largely come to a stop across the sport.
Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel announced at Michigan’s championship parade that May had agreed to an extension, but an agreement was never signed or announced.

It’s gotta be way too late in the offseason to not promote an assistant…right?
