With Warde Manuel set to interview Juwan Howard today — and news that Ed Cooley will remain at Providence — here’s a look at Howard from Greg Sylvander who covers the Heat for Five Reasons Sports.
Sylvander profiled Howard earlier this spring and has watched the Heat assistant coach closely over the last six years.
From what you’ve seen, would Juwan Howard be a fit as a college head coach?
Yes, I believe he would be great as a head coach at the college level. He is known in Miami as the ultimate player’s coach. His emphasis and focus in Miami has been on defense and in college basketball, I think that foundation will pay off in terms of building a sustainable program year over year.
What has impressed you the most about Howard during his time at Miami?
His ability to balance having genuine relationships with players that go deeper than the typical player/coach bonds, while also remaining a figure that they respect enough to take advice from.
