Michigan hosts San Diego State on Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m., CBS) in hopes of getting its season back on track. It will be a reunion game for Brian Dutcher, who was Juwan Howard’s lead recruiter and remains close to Howard and his family, but that relationship will be secondary when the two teams take the floor (Note: Steve Fisher won’t be in attendance due to personal reasons precluding him from traveling).
Both coaches have rosters that they like and teams they are trying to figure out. Michigan has already dropped games to Arizona, Seton Hall and North Carolina. At the same time, San Diego State fell short against BYU (66-60) and USC (58-43) while knocking off middling high-majors Georgetown (73-56) and Arizona State (65-63).
The Aztecs are battling some injury issues while Michigan is looking for anything to build on with Big Ten play looming next week.
