Michigan enters Sunday’s contest with Ohio State in a bit of an unfamiliar position. Coming off its first Quad 1 victory — and its first road win since December — the Wolverines have as much momentum as they’ve had since the start of conference play.
But can they keep it up?
“I guess we’ll find out tomorrow,” Saddi Washington said Saturday. “It’s been a while since we won a road game. We’ll find out if we’re able to bottle that up and use that as some good momentum here moving forward. The guys understood the importance and the urgency. If we’re gonna put ourselves back in position for league and postseason opportunities, every game that we can get this season is critical.”
Ohio State is in freefall — the Buckeyes have lost eight of their last nine games and now sit in 12th place in the Big Ten. On paper, this seems to be the softest stretch of Michigan’s schedule the rest of the way, with Ohio State on Sunday and a home tilt with Nebraska on Wednesday.
But Washington stressed that Michigan needs to take things one day at a time in order to parlay its momentum into positive results.
“We’re really at the mercy of the schedule,” Washington said. “We literally have to focus on today. Today was preparation for Ohio State. Then when we get to Sunday, it will be focused on beating the Buckeyes and nothing else.
“We don’t have the advantage of being able to map this thing out. We have to stay focused on today, win it and trust that our preparation in that moment is good enough to keep us moving forward.”
