Nimari Burnett to return for 2025-26 season

Michigan wing Nimari Burnett will be back for another season in Ann Arbor. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound wing announced his intentions to return to the Wolverines today.

Burnett averaged 9.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 26.3 minutes per game in 2024-25. He also led the team in made 3-pointers, finishing 66-of-165 from deep on the season.

“He’s a testament to all that’s right in college basketball,” Dusty May said of Burnett in February. “He’s found a situation where he really fits in well with his teammates.”

Burnett’s extra year of eligibility is a product of his long and winding journey through college basketball. The former top-40 recruit had stops at Texas Tech (2020-21), Alabama (2021-2023) and Michigan (2023-present).

Technically, this coming year will be Burnett’s sixth as a college basketball player. His season at Texas Tech doesn’t count again eligibility limits because it was his COVID year, and his 2021-22 season at Alabama was a medical redshirt after he missed the entire season.

This will be Burnett’s third year in Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines have already lost eight players from last year’s roster. Danny Wolf declared for the NBA Draft and graduate transfers Vlad Goldin and Rubin Jones are out of eligibility. Tre Donaldson, Sam Walters, Justin Pippen, Phat Phat Brooks and Jace Howard opted to enter the transfer portal.

Michigan has been active in the transfer portal, landing commitments from North Carolina point guard Elliot Cadeau, UAB forward Yaxel Lendeborg, UCLA big man Aday Mara and Illinois big man Morez Johnson Jr. The Wolverines also welcome McDonald’s All-American guard Trey McKenney and top-100 wing Winters Grady to the roster.
