Recruiting Roundup: Five-star guard Chase Lumpkin sets official visit to Michigan this week

Mike Boynton Jr. and his staff were on the road recruiting last weekend for the final evaluation period of the summer. College coaches hit the Peach Jam in Augusta and the Adidas 3SSB Championship in Rock Hill, SC, and other grassroots circuits around the country before the window closed.

With the evaluation period in the books, there’s now a short six-day window when prospects can visit schools (July 20-26th) before a dead period that extends until August 19th — meaning no on- or off-campus recruiting events.

For the most part, that means we are entering list cut season. Prospects will cut their lists to six (or 10 or 15) schools and set visits to those schools in the fall. There are also a handful of visits that will get scheduled this week before the extended dead period.

One of those is five-star guard Chase Lumpkin, who will take an official visit to Michigan this Wednesday. The Wolverines offered Lumpkin in June and tracked him throughout the weekend at Peach Jam, including having three coaches —Boynton, Kyle Church, and Akeem Miskdeen—at one of his games.

Lumpkin has been one of the fastest risers on the circuit this summer, climbing from 92nd to 25th in the 247 Sports Composite over the last calendar year. He’s a combo guard who is a big-time scorer with range and dynamic shot-making. He’s picked up offers from schools like UConn, Villanova, Vanderbilt, USC, Arizona State, Kentucky, Iowa, Providence, Indiana, UCLA, and Miami over the last year. He’s also set to visit USC in late August and Alabama on September 19th.
