Michigan rolled to an easy win over Nebraska on Thursday night to wrap up its home schedule for 2018-19. The Wolverines got key contributions off the bench and picked up the 29-point victory despite playing without injured wing Charles Matthews.
Here are five takeaways from Michigan’s win.
Life without Charles Matthews
Charles Matthews played 20 second-half minutes against Michigan State on Sunday after injuring his ankle and told reporters on Wednesday that he planned to play against Nebraska.
But as the Wolverines took the court for warmups, Matthews wasn’t on the floor. He was dressed in a Michigan polo with a black boot on his right foot.
“Yesterday I didn’t know,” Beilein said after the win. “The one day he did some stuff it didn’t feel right, and then when the next day he came to practice … He did a workout and felt better, but when we came, he couldn’t do anything. We certainly weren’t going to tell the world 24 hours ahead of time once we knew that.”
