Houstan’s commitment reflects confidence in Howard

Talk to any Michigan basketball recruit, AAU or high school coach and it’ll come back to the same place. The Wolverines have the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class after early signing day, and it’s all Juwan Howard.

Caleb Houstan, one of two five-stars that Howard signed, starts from the beginning — he’s liked Michigan for a while. There are other factors at play here: Houstan roomed with Zeb Jackson at Montverde last year, he likes Jon Sanderson’s strength and conditioning program. But it takes all of 30 seconds before he gets to the same place as everyone else.

“The biggest (factor) is probably coach Juwan Howard,” Houstan told UM Hoops. “How he recruited me and the culture he’s building at Michigan, that’s something I definitely wanna be a part of.”

Houstan hasn’t visited Michigan since attending a summer basketball camp a while back — and won’t be able to do so anytime soon because of COVID-19 restrictions. He reclassified to 2021 this summer and the calls came in droves.
