2021-22 Season

Michigan will travel to North Carolina for 2021 ACC-Big Ten Challenge

According to a report by Jon Rothstein, Michigan will play at North Carolina in the 2021 ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

This will be the fourth time in the last five seasons that Michigan and North Carolina have faced off in the non-conference season. The Wolverines lost in Chapel Hill in 2017, won at home in 2018 and won in the Bahamas in 2019.

The Tar Heels are ranked 25th nationally in Bart Torvik’s preseason projections. They return Caleb Love, Armando Bacot, RJ Davis and several other contributors from last year’s team that went 18-11 and lost in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Wisconsin.

Michigan’s 2021-22 schedule also features home dates with Kentucky and Seton Hall, a trip to UCF, and the MGM Resorts Main Event with Wichita State, Arizona and UNLV. The Wolverines also have a game to make up at Oregon after last year’s originally scheduled game was postponed due to COVID-19.

Other reported ACC-Big Ten Challenge matchups include:

  • Indiana at Syracuse
  • Nebraska at NC State
  • Louisville at Michigan State
  • Miami at Penn State
  • Virginia Tech at Maryland
  • Clemson at Rutgers
  • Notre Dame at Illinois
  • Minnesota at Pittsburgh
  • Northwestern at Wake Forest
  • Duke at Ohio State
  • Iowa at Virginia

My guess is that the Oregon game gets pushed back another year. 7 high major games is a lot.

That wouldn’t surprise me… are we considering UCF a high major?

Ha I guess not when I think about it. But a true road-game against a “2nd-tier” conference team is probably worth counting as a resume mark in that grouping.
