2021-22 Season

Five takeaways from Michigan’s exhibition win over Wayne State

On a night that Wayne State unveiled its brand new, $25 million arena, Michigan spoiled the party with a dominant 87-54 victory in the exhibition match. Here are five takeaways from our first glimpse of the new-look Wolverines ahead of Wednesday’s season-opener.

Diabate appears as advertised

At Michigan’s media day in mid-October, a number of players raved about Moussa Diabate’s potential. One exhibition game into his college career, it’s easy to see why.

Diabate tantalized on both ends of the floor. As the first man off the bench, he quickly established himself as a menace defensively, using his lanky 6-foot-10 frame to disrupt and contest shots. He blocked three shots in total, including a memorable volleyball spike of a lay-up attempt, which elicited a chorus of “aahs” from the crowd.
