Following Michigan’s 93-85 loss to No. 15 Illinois, acting head coach Phil Martelli wasted little time offering his synopsis of Sunday’s game.
“We walked in here together, we’re walking out of here tonight and we weren’t good enough,” Martelli offered, his voice firm. “We just weren’t good enough.”
Here are five takeaways from the loss.
Cockburn humbles, neutralizes Dickinson
Hunter Dickinson is Michigan’s undisputable fulcrum. Everything that the Wolverines execute on offense revolves around their All-American caliber center.
But Sunday afternoon, Dickinson met his match.
He scored just 13 points — his lowest scoring total since Jan. 26 — and failed to score in the final 15:52 of the game. Overall, he shot 4-of-13 from the field and went 1-of-5 from distance, prolonging a concerning 3-point trend.
