As the dust settled on the NCAA Tournament and Kansas emerged victorious, the real drama had only just begun. As every program in the nation began working on next season’s roster, players and coaches made tough decisions about their futures. And as transfers started looking for new opportunities — like they do every offseason — rosters went through the blender.
Forget March Madness, the real craziness happens in the transfer portal. Michigan is no exception, and it’s a reality that it’s an environment it has to embrace. In the process of building championship rosters, the portal is just another tool to build winners.
“When a guy like (sophomore center) Hunter (Dickinson) says he’s coming back, he’s coming back for one reason: the pursuit of championships,” associate head coach Phil Martelli told The Michigan Insider. “Multiple championships — not Big Ten, Big Ten Tournament — he’s talking about championships. So you keep looking and say ‘well, where, where can we change how this team fits together.’ ”
