Michigan went into the eye of the storm, took the opposition’s best punch, and still picked up a convincing road victory at the RAC. The Wolverines fell behind 13-3 during a “blackout” at one of the Big Ten’s most intimidating venues before outscoring Rutgers 55-32 over the remaining 34 minutes of game time.
The Wolverines caught some breaks along the way — Rutgers shot 5-of-16 at the charity stripe — but were the tougher team in a building where very few teams can walk off the floor and say that with a straight face. Even without Jett Howard, Michigan had the better guards, the better big man and the defensive wild card to play in closing time with Tarris Reed Jr.
It was a monster night for Michigan’s young backcourt, which combined for 30 points, four rebounds, five assists and eight steals, and a win that kept Michigan’s season alive for another week.
