2023-24 Season

Terrance Williams II taking new shot, same mindset into senior season

Terrance Williams II knows how to stay the course, but isn’t afraid to change while doing so.

The fourth-year forward still sees himself as a veteran presence and leader for the Michigan men’s basketball team, and returns for his senior season with plenty to prove. While he’s taking the same leadership mindset after a shaky 2022-23 season, there’s something he isn’t bringing back from last year.

His shot, which had him averaging 6.1 points per game on 38.5% shooting, is gone. In its place is a brand-new jumper that he’s been working on all summer.

“He’s been great. T-Will has done an awesome job of making some tweaks with his shot,” assistant coach Saddi Washington said on Tuesday’s Michigan Media Day. “He’s come back a more consistent shooter.”

To get to that point, Williams II spent some time back home this offseason with his shooting coach, where they worked on three key areas of improvement on his shot: not slinging back as much, getting a quicker release and more follow through. Those three focuses build off each other, with less slinging back helping speed his release, and a quicker release giving more time for a full and clean follow-through.
