Michigan’s return leg against Oregon was delayed long enough to be decided by a freshman guard who spent his high school years looking up to Payton Pritchard.
Wolverine fans will remember that Pritchard hit the game-winner in overtime in Ann Arbor in 2019. Now freshman guard Jackson Shelstad, who attended the same high school as Pritchard, knocked off the Wolverines with a 30-foot overtime winner four years later.
It was a get-right opportunity for the Wolverines that was wasted despite a heroic night from sophomore point guard Dug McDaniel, who scored 33 points and hit seven 3-pointers in a career night.
And it is a long flight home for a Michigan team that continues to show offensive promise and the inability to put together anything resembling an effective defense.
