Next week, workouts will turn into full practices as the college basketball season officially begins for the Wolverines. They will move from four one-hour sessions per week to the standard 20-hour week (16 hours on the court, 4 in the weight room) as preparations for the 2024-25 season kick into high gear.
The new faces in Michigan’s facility — both players and coaches — have gotten a taste of how things fit together through offseason workouts, but it’s been more fragmented than cohesive. Coaches have emphasized that they haven’t had extended time with the full roster and have had to experiment with different lineup combinations based on availability.
The offseason has felt like an extended evaluation period aimed at understanding the roster’s pieces before fitting them together in the weeks ahead.
“We have some really, really interesting pieces,” head coach Dusty May said during a radio interview on The Michigan Insider. “Sam Walters, for example, being a 6-foot-10 shooter, and Danny Wolf being a primary handler. Then you add in the speed, strength, and athleticism of Roddy Gayle and Tre (Donaldson), and our young guys have been pleasant surprises.”
