Podcast: Michigan State at Michigan Preview

Michigan and Michigan State are set to clash in the most significant in-state rivalry clash since 2019. Dylan and Eric break down the game on each side of the ball, starting with Michigan State’s offense against Michigan’s defense and wrapping up with Michigan’s offense against Michigan State’s defense. They hit on the keys to the game, how Michigan State will defend the big-to-big ball screen, and what it will take for either side to come out on top.

In answer to Dylan’s question. There is ONE Michigan coach to win their first matchup against Izzo.

    Brian Ellerbe.

Found this on Insta just now. Pretty wild (and exciting) if true!

e-shap did a great job filling BQuinn’s shoes! The only thing missing was Eric not fully understanding all of Dylan’s predictions that were based on MSU’s–and especially Izzo’s–extremely specific idiosyncrasies. I can also already see Izzo’s post-game presser, in both losing and winning versions ~barf~

I feel like over the past few weeks UM has made a concerted effort to poke the ball out when they aren’t in quite the right position to grab a rebound. With all of the talk on the pod about MSUs strengths in rebounding and transition, how do we feel this poking the ball out strategy will play out? Better to continue to try, or be more conservative to prevent even easier run outs? Like Dylan’s Carr dunk nitemare visions, I fear UM pokes the ball out into an MSU guard’s hands who is already flying down court on the fast break. And if they do refrain, does it even matter bc of MSUs rebounding prowess anyway?
