Michigan will shoot 40% or better from 3 in a game. I’ll die on this hill

Decided to suck it up and listen to this on my way to work. Haven’t finished it, but a couple of early thoughts…

    • The 3pt discussion was about what I expected. A broken clock is right twice a day so dumb luck would suggest we can hit threes in a game again this century…but we’re about 14 games since the last time that happened so who knows.
    • I thought Dylan’s point was interesting and something I hadn’t considered. Michigan doesn’t have a “tough shot maker” on this team. When the going gets tough, there isn’t a guy to hit a difficult basket or off-the-dribble jumper. MSU has Jase, Wisconsin has Tonje, Purdue has Smith, Illinois has KJ. Guys like that help you stop a run, overcome adversity, bend a defense.
    • Which brings me to Danny. He does a lot of amazing things, but his scoring/finishing/shooting is streaky and therefore he’s not our tough shot maker. It was sobering to hear his ORTG is LOWER than last year. Yikes! Maybe I’m crazy, but is it possible that some of the shine has come off his first round grade given the flaws that have been showing against the better teams in the league? Would his love of Michigan, some NIL, and a desire to get his degree bring him back? As great as he is, it isn’t hard to picture this forum criticizing his draft grade if he wore a different uniform when you look at his underlying metrics. Getting a senior fringe NBA guy back would be amazing…if unlikely.

I enjoyed the podcast. My take is making 3’s makes this team dangerous. Unfortunately at this point I have zero confidence this team shoots well in either tournament. If by some miracle they make shots anything can happen.
