Michigan’s exhibition performance on Friday night wasn’t perfect, but it provided a useful assessment of where the Wolverines stand before Tuesday’s season opener.
Michigan handled Saginaw Valley State, 82-51, but the game featured a few expected hiccups. Despite jumping out to an early 12-point lead before the first media timeout, the Wolverines allowed the Cardinals to cut the deficit to four points late in the opening period.
Michigan responded and controlled the game in the second half, but the result was secondary. Friday night was about providing reps for an inexperienced sophomore class and painting a clearer picture of what to expect from Juwan Howard’s program.
