Michigan’s 111-68 win over Houston Baptist on Friday night felt more like a summer open run or a pro-am than a Division I basketball game, except then the teams would have been divided evenly.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 26-4 lead and had the Huskies tripled up late in the first half. Michigan’s 111 points were the most it scored in a game since 1998 and 13 of the 14 players to see the floor scored.
It was a dominant performance littered with career highs and statistical outliers — this was Michigan’s fastest game of the KenPom era at 86 possessions — but in the end, it was just a reminder that this team is ready for the next challenge. Next week, the Wolverines will dive headfirst into one of the most difficult seven-game stretches they’ll play all season, one that includes what could be seven games against high-major foes and five away from home.
