Michigan showed its ceiling again Sunday. Now it becomes about sustaining it.
Selection Sunday is four weeks from now, which means that Michigan has four weeks to hold this thing together.
Sunday’s 89-65 demolition of Indiana doesn’t mean much on its own — the Hoosiers are sitting square on the bubble and that’s the type of game Michigan is supposed to win, especially at home. Taken as a symptom, though, it’s another sign that the Wolverines are looking a lot more like a team nobody will want to play a month from now. If they can keep it up.
Zavier Simpson finished with 11 assists — four more than Indiana as a team — spraying the ball around to everyone, everywhere. The offense flowed, not just because of the Hoosiers’ latent ball-screen coverage, but because everyone hit shots. Five players finished with double-digit points; Austin Davis had nine. By offensive efficiency, it’s Michigan’s second-best game of the year, behind only a 103-point performance against Iowa in early December.
